is multi religious country. It consists thousand of languages in different
places like that our India consist many styles of Dances in different places.
Now let us known one by one in below
Kuchipudi
It is a solo dance popular in Andhra
Pradesh. It is originated in a place called kuchelapur. Tirtha Narayana
and Siddhendra Yogi evolved this style. Traditionally performed by men attired
like women, it has a style which corresponds with Bhagavata Mela natak Of Tamil
Nadu. Except for the emphasis on animation, it draws upon the principles of the
Natya Shastra and in all other aspects it is akin to Bharatanatyam. Vedantham
Satyanarayana is the doyen of Kuchipudi. Vempati china Satyam is
removed guru of this dance form and he passed away on July 29,2012.
ODISSI
Odissi is a dance from developed in
Orissa during 2nd century BC when the Jain king Kharavela
ruled. He was himself an expert dancers. It is based on the principles of Natya
Shastra. Themes from Jayadeva’s Gita Govinda, poems in praise of Krishna written
around the 12th century, dominate the content. It was first performed by women called Maharis in the
Jagannath temple and then by the young boys attired as women called Gotipuas
. Odissa is woven around the basics, tribhanga pose typically of Indian
sculpture. It has gained great popularity and the credit goes to Samyukta
Panigrahi who gave it a universal appeal.
BHARATANATYAM
Bharatanatyam is poetry in motion -a solo dance,
originating in the temple of south India. It is based on the principles of
Natya Shastra, written by the great sage, Bharata around 400BC. It is a
highly traditional dance form performed to a respertory of Carnatic music and
comprises items such as the alarippu ,varnam, padam, thillana and so on. Earlier, variedly known
as DasiAttam and sadir,it was practised by devadasi in the south Indian temple.
Its present form was evolved in Tanjore by poniah Pillai and brothers. Smt. Rukmani
Devi gave it a new life and respectability. Bharatanatyam is the classical
dance of Tamil nadu.
Chakiar Koothu
This dance form is believed to have
been introduce in Kerala by earlier Aryan immigrants. Its
performance is restricted to the members of Chakiar caste. It is a highly
orthodox form of entertainment which is performed inside the temple and is
witnessed by the Hindus of the higher castes only
Kathak
This dance form originated in North India.
It has its roots in Katha meaning story tellers who were attached to the
temples in North India, narrated stories from Epics in the form of Radha and krishnalilas
with the advent of muslim rule,it came out of the temple in the form of
sophisticated dance of the Mughal courts. Lucknow ,Jaipur and Benaras became its
centres. Wajid Ali shah ,the king of Lucknow, patronized this
dance form which drifted from a pure dance form into erotic.
Manipuri
Manipuri is a form of dance, mostly
ritualistic and popular in the north-east. From the 15th to 18th
centuries, vaishnavism came to adopted
and this ushered in a new era in the development of this style. The ranges
comprises five different types of ballets based on the Radha Krishna – gopis
theme. The other form of this dance is the Sankranti’s, usually performed by
men carrying drums called pung.
Kathakali
This dance form is from Kerala,and
is more dramatic than narrative in form. It has its origin in the court of the
kings of Kerala and is considered to be the most scientific and elaborately defined dance form. The body
gestures, hand movements comprises its language. It is not a folk dance but
highly classical through not very old.
Yakshagana
It is a dance drama from Karnataka
which is of rural origin. The language is kannada and theme based on the Hindu
epics. It is about 400 years old and was revived by Dr. Shivaram Karanth
